1955 Patek Philippe Ref.2552, Calatrava "Disco Volante" 18KYG

Ref.2552 is equipped with Patek Philippe's first self-winding movement "Calibre 12-600AT", which has a very high winding efficiency due to its beautifully carved guilloche-engraved heavy 18-karat gold rotor. This caliber are only a few years from 1953 to 1960. Only piece of 7099 was produced and I believe it is installed into only 3 references of Ref.2552, Ref.2551, Ref.2552.
The gyromax balance used in combination with the slow and fast needles has been adopted, and some minor changes have been made to the rotor shaft and rotor fixing plate, which are the characteristics of the latter model. Also, the fact that this caliber was very good is that the 23-300-based Cal.27-460, which was succeeded from 1961, has almost not changed the self-winding mechanism except that ball bearings are adopted for the rotor shaft.
The swan's neck and leaflet screws of this era also symbolize the beauty of the movement. The screw back that swells in like a mountains provided for this rotor to rotate. The crown of the PP mark are characteristic. And, in the history of Calatrava, Ref.2526 (Tropical) and this Ref.2551, Ref.2552 (Disco Volante) are the only references that have been given a common name.
